Event Parking
Car parking is located in the traffic management compound opposite the event venue, please follow the signs for parking when you arrive. Please avoid parking on Crusoe Road and be respectful of local residents and access to their homes.
Road Closure and Traffic Management Advice
Important Note: Residents will still have access to their properties.
For the safety of athletes a road closure will be in place on Crusoe Road on Saturday 23 Nov from 6am to 3pm.
The good new is that the road closure had been designed to ensure that residents can still access their properties during the event, however, we do request that residents use the detours outlined on the map below.
Residents in the Road Closure Area can access properties via Traffic Management Marshals located at Furness St and Gap Rd, however, there is NO THROUGH TRAFFIC PAST CRUSOE RESERVOIR. This means:
- Residents to the west of Crusoe Reservoir will access via Gap Rd.
- Residents to the east of Crusoe Reservoir will access via Furness St.
We thank everyone concerned for their consideration and understanding.
Pets
At In2Adventure we love our fur kids, however pets are not permitted within Crusoe Reservoir Reserve. Please leave your furry friends at home to avoid being asked to leave the event site by Council Rangers.
CERTIFIED ASSISTANCE ANIMALS
Some companion animals are trained to provide assistance to people with a disability to help alleviate the effect of that disability. These assistance animals are not pets. They provide an important service that helps people to more fully participate in personal and public life activities with more confidence and independence.

ABOUT THE TREX ELITE/OPEN CATEGORY
TreX has an Elite/Open Category. This category is for those athletes wishing to race at a higher level of competition and typically includes athletes at the top level of the sport in Australia. Any athlete wishing to race at a higher level of competition and take a step up from the age group competition is eligible to enter Open/Elite.
Where a prize purse is offered at events, this is awarded to winners in the Open/Elite Category.
For athletes considering entering the Open/Elite event, we recommend referring to results from previous years which will offer a good indication as to the typical standard for the Open/Elite category for a particular event.
TRIATHLON AUSTRALIA GUIDELINES Professional/Elite Category
Open is a category that has prize money below the “Professional/Elite” threshold as per the TA Professional/Elite Licence Policy (ie Less than $10k). This category is open to professional and age group athletes. This applies to the majority of TreX events.
In the circumstance where a TreX event offers prize money greater than $10,000 the category is defined as either “Professional” or “Elite”. In this circumstance, prize money is only available to appropriate licenced athletes under the TA Professional/Elite Licence Policy.
To find out more about Professional/Elite licences please visit the Triathlon Australia website here

START/FINISH & COURSE BRIEF
COURSE & SAFETY BRIEF | COMPULSORY FOR ALL ATHLETES
The Course & Safety Brief will take place at Race HQ. We value the safety of our TreX Tri family and want to ensure that every athlete has a safe and enjoyable race.
We also want to ensure that each athletes has the most up to date information about the course and any late changes. For this reason all athletes are required to attend the briefing. It is important, and the Race Director reserves the right to refuse entry to any participant who chooses not to attend.
The first wave will start soon after the course and safety brief is finished.
WAVE STARTS
To avoid having 300 swimmers starting at once, waves starts determine the official start time of each age group within each race distance.
Wave starts are determined by the number of athletes in each age group and/or gender and are typically 1 to 3 minutes apart, depending on the course and location. Full details are published on the notice board at Race HQ. Please check times on the day and ensure you are at the start line with plenty of time to spare.
EVENT START
TreX will start at the beach on Crusoe Dam located approx 200m along the path from Race HQ.
Please check the wave start times on the notice board at Race HQ and ensure you are at the start line ready for your race call well in advance.
EVENT FINISH
The finish is always a special place for our athletes, so be sure to make your finish photo one to remember and get ready to celebrate your achievements. Our volunteers will be serving fruit and water and collecting timing chips in the finish area.
TIMING CHIP COLLECTION
Timing chips are to be returned to the Volunteers in the athlete recovery area. If a timing chip has been lost on the course during the event, please notify the timing personnel immediately after crossing the finish line. Dirt Master contenders please refer to the Dirt Master information.
FIRST AID
A dedicated first aid tent will be set up at the finish line for any first aid needs.
BIKE COLLECTION
Transition will be opened for competitors to collect their own bikes when the final mountain bike rider has returned to transition. Competitors are to wear their race numbers to verify bike collection.
TRIATHLON RACE RULES
A good and fair race always includes a few rules and to ensure you enjoy your time at the event. TreX events are governed by the rules and regulations as set out by Triathlon Australia.
It’s a good idea to have a read of the document below BEFORE the start of the event. These rules will be applied by Triathlon Australia officials and unfortunately ignorance isn’t an excuse that can be accepted.
SAFETY & FIRST AID
Your safety is a key consideration; however, Cross Triathlon, Duathlon, AquaBike, Aquathlon, XC MTB and Trail Running does involve risk.
FIRST AID
A dedicated First Aid tent will be located in a central area at Race HQ. Dedicated first aiders are also strategically positions throughout the course.
WATER SAFETY
Water safety on the swim is provided by the local swim venue.
3 SAFETY RULES
At In2Adventure we have three key safety rules that we ask all competitors to observe.
- Stop and assist any competitor that is in need of emergency assistance.
- Report any incident to the next available marshal or emergency radio point on the course.
- Compete within your abilities.
SAFETY ON THE COURSE
On the course there are a number of things athletes can do to assist themselves and fellow competitors:
- Slow down in steep areas.
- If you’re not confident with a section of the track dismount your bike and walk if you feel more comfortable. Please remember to keep to the left so other riders can pass easily.
- Ride/run on the left hand side of tracks.
- Compete within your limits.
- Let common sense and courtesy prevail. We want to see you safe and sound at the end of the race.
EMERGENCY EVACUATION
In the event of fire or other emergency, follow instructions from event officials. On the course marshals will direct you back to the Evacuation Meeting Point at HQ. Please follow instructions from Emergency Personnel and/or event officials.
YOUR SAFETY IS OUR CONCERN AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
UNSOLICITED PROMOTION
Our event partners have been extremely generous in supporting this event so we can all enjoy the sport we love. We reciprocate that support and therefore no signage, flyers, promotional banners, promotional tents, branded vehicles, sales, service or trade displays are permitted to be set up within the Race HQ, event, course or car parking areas without written authorisation from the event directors.
Please be respectful of this to avoid being asked to remove tents etc.
Please see the ‘Event Promotion Policy’ displayed on the Policy page.
ENVIRONMENT
In2Adventure is committed to maintaining a minimal impact policy that will protect the environment and enable us as individual members of the general public and members of the outdoor community to continue to enjoy the vast natural environment that is Australia’s backyard. Therefore we ask that competitors read and agree to abide by the Bush Code outlined on in our Environmental Policy and ensure that no rubbish, gel packets or wrappers are dropped on the course during the event.
Course
TREX GOLDFIELDS SWIM COURSE
The swim takes place in the enclosed waters of beautiful Crusoe Reservoir
SWIM COURSE
The swim course is an anti-clockwise lap and is marked with 1m orange pyramids and yellow pyramids.
- Standard: 3 x 500m laps
- Sprint: 1 x 400m lap
- Junior: 1 x 150m lap
- Dirt Kids: 1 x 50m lap
WATER TEMPERATURE
Average water temperature during November is around 21 degrees. Technical Officials will measure the water temperature prior to the race and results will determine if wetsuits are permitted. The water temperature and ruling about wetsuits will be published on social media, the event notice board and via the public address system.
Full details about water temperatures and wetsuit use can be found on p20 of the ITU Competition Rules.
WATER CLARITY
Crusoe Reservoir is a fresh water dam and is suitable for swimming. Water clarity is good.
TIDES, CURRENTS & CONDITIONS
Being an inland reservoir there are no currents or tides to contend with, however, on a windy day the surface can become slightly choppy.
SWIM START
The event will commence with a running start from the waters edge into the dam. The water deepens quickly from the shore, minimal dolphin dives will be required.
SWIM EXIT
Standard Distance Lap 1 & 2: The exit is located on the waters edge near the swim start. At the end of lap 1 & 2 swimmers will exit the water and run approx 50m around the designated flag to reenter the water.
To Transition: The run from the swim exit to transition is approx 150m following a concrete path to transition. The path can be rough and participants are invited to leave footwear at the ‘shoe drop’ at the swim exit if desired.
TreX Goldfields MTB Course
The mountain bike course is a 10km/5km lap hosted in Bendigo Regional Park. The mountain bike course offers a great combination of undulating climbs, fire trails and single track. The Standard Distance course also includes some short technical sections with some rocky climbs and descents.
This will be a fast course and we anticipate fast times on the day.
The Sprint and Junior courses are suitable for those new to mountain biking, and the Standard Distance course will challenge those with advanced technical riding skills in a number of rocky, pinchy climbing sections.
OVERTAKING
Below are the standard overtaking procedures on the mountain bike course.
- Keep to the left of the track where possible and allow others to pass.
- Walking something you do not feel confident riding is fine! However, please move off the track to allow riders right of way.
- When passing, give the person in front a friendly shout to indicate that you wish to pass “Passing when you’re ready”
- If being passed, as soon as safe to do so move to the edge of the trail. You may need to ride off the trail to allow the faster rider to pass
- You must give track to a rider who wishes to pass, do not deliberately block from overtaking, this is against the rules and contrary to the spirit of the event.
- If you aren’t confident or capable of riding off the track to let another rider pass then riders must dismount off the track to allow other riders to pass.
- Race hard! But keep it friendly & have a great time doing it!
About the TreX Goldfields Trail Run
Taking in the beautiful and diverse scenery and terrain of No 7 Park this trail run will challenge competitors with a combination of undulating trails, traversing Crusoe Reservoir including technical, rocky and wet sections.
The run is 80% off-trail and is one of the most diverse of the TreX series. It includes one of our favourite sections, affectionately know as ‘Log In Log Out’ which is a 150m log run on 1m high logs. It also includes the ever popular gully run with its gnarly, rocky terrain as well as the water run following historic gold mining water courses.
In some sections there are no trails and you will be running through the bush in rough terrain. For this reason we recommend runners wear protective eye wear as well as suitable footwear for the terrain.
This is an OFF ROAD triathlon, expect a lot of fun, and that you and your footwear will get wet, muddy & dirty.
It is a Triathlon Australia regulation that footwear MUST be worn at all times on the run.
TRANSITION AREA
Transition is an area where athletes transition from one leg to the next ie from Swim to MTB and MTB to Run.
Transition is located on the Open Grassed Area behind Race HQ. There is a 150m run from the swim exit to the transition entry. Racks are signed and each athlete has a 50cm wide allocation. Mountain Bikes are racked by the seat.
After registering, take your equipment to the transition area. There is limited space in transition and competitors are asked to take all due care and precautions when entering and exiting the area.
IMPORTANT: Only competitors are permitted in the Transition Area.
For transition opening and closing times please refer to the Event Timetable.
TRANSITION ENTRY
After registration, take your bike, helmet, running shoes, drinks and any other required equipment to the transition area.
Please ensure the following prior to entry:
- MTB Number is attached securely to the bike handlebars; and
- Bike helmet is fitted and fastened to your head.
BIKE SAFETY CHECKS
When entering the Transition Area an official from Triathlon Australia will complete a safety check on your bike and helmet. Please ensure that your bike is in good working order, your helmet is fitted and fastened correctly and handle bar ends are plugged.
SET UP
Place bikes where indicated by the transition signage. Set up race equipment next to your bike. Space is limited to 50cm per athlete so please consider other competitors and keep equipment neat and tidy. Mountain Bikes are racked by the seat.
For safety, bags or boxes with equipment are not permitted in the Transition Area. These will be removed if they are taken in.
COURTESY IN THE TRANSITION AREA
We’re all at TreX to have a great day out! Each athlete has a 50cm allocated space to rack bikes & leave any kit required during the event. Please keep equipment neat and tidy and please don’t move or interfere with any other competitors gear or bike in the transition area. If there is an issue with another athletes bike or equipment please refer the issue to a Triathlon Australia official.
GET TO KNOW THE TRANSITION AREA
It’s important to know where to go in the transition area for the start and finish of each leg. It’s preferable to find this out BEFORE the event rather than during the event. Take some time in the morning to check out:
- The Swim Entry and where your bike is located from the entry point;
- The Bike Exit;
- The Bike Entry and how to return to your allocated bike space; and
- The Run Exit.
TRANSITION CLOSURE
The Transition Area will be cleared at closure time. Participants must have placed their equipment and cleared the area by this time. If athletes arrive at Transition at closure time they will not be permitted to take part in the event.
This will be enforced as it is a Triathlon Australia safety and regulatory requirement that the Transition is free from competitors before the start of the event and all participants are required to attend the pre-race brief.
Please refer to the Event Timetable for closure times
BIKE COLLECTION & TRANSITION AREA CLEARANCE
The Transition Area will be open for bike collection when the final mountain bike has returned from the course. Please listen for announcements at Race HQ.
DIRT KIDS TRANSITION AREA
Dirt Kids is a non-competitive event and is all about giving our young champions of tomorrow a chance to have load of fun in a relaxed atmosphere.
Dirt Kids will have an informal transition area located at Race HQ.
Please listen out for the announcements at Race HQ for Transition placement times and event start times. Transition rules are relaxed and we welcome parents and friends to encourage participants in a really positive and helpful way.

MOUNTAIN BIKE FEED ZONE
The Coaches Zone for triathlon has been renamed the ‘Feed Zone’ for all events.
- The MTB Feed Zone is not an Aid Station. The MTB Feed Zone is an area where athletes can access their own hydration/nutrition during the event.
- Hydration/nutrition can be picked up directly by the athlete, or it may be handed to them by a designated assistant as the athlete passes through the feed zone ONLY.
- Note: This is NOT a drop zone for unrequired items that an athlete took out of transition e.g. hydration packs, clothes, accessories, etc.
- The Start and End of the feed zone will be clearly signed. Please place feed zone items between this signage only.
PLACEMENT & COLLECTION OF HYDRATION/NUTRITION
- Hydration/Nutrition may placed in Feed Zone prior to the event.
- The athlete is responsible for collecting the items immediately after the event. All uncollected items will be delivered to the LOC Lost Property.
LITTER ZONES
We are extremely privileged to be granted permission to race in this naturally beautiful area and want to ensure that we keep the area in its original condition.
To make it easier for athletes litter zones have been implemented on the course where litter can be deposited. Each litter zone is clearly signed with a start and end point. Litter may be deposited between these signs only.
Marshals and video cameras on the course will be monitoring this closely and penalties and/or disqualification will result, so do the right thing and don’t spoil your race.
AID STATIONS
There will be two aid stations on the 5km Trail Run lap which runners will pass at approx. 2.5k and 5k. The aid station will offer water in cups.
COURSE CLOSURE
At In2Adventure we don’t usually have cut off times and wherever possible make every effort to enable competitors to finish the event. The only exception to this is:
- To continue in the event poses a risk to the participants safety;
- There is not sufficient daylight hours to enable the participant to finish safely;
- Permit times do not permit an extension of the event times; or
- Logistics and staffing do not allow this.
With that in mind, it is however expected that entrants will have trained to be able to finish the event in a reasonable time. Expected latest finish times for TreX Goldfields are:
- Standard | 5:00
- Sprint | 2:10
- Junior|Teaser | 0:50
Where competitors are not expected to finish within these times, it may be necessary to remove an athlete from the course after one of the MTB legs, however, this only occurs in extreme circumstances as we focus very much on ‘participation’ which is one of our key corporate principles and within reason make every effort to allow each participant to finish where it is practical.
COURSE SIGNAGE
The TreX course will be marked primarily colour coded A4 signs indicating discipline and/or course. Bunting and cones will also be utilised. Course marshals will be located throughout the course; however, it is the competitor’s responsibility to know the course and take the correct route on the day.
Examples of TreX course signage are shown above.
TRAIL RUN AUSTRALIA SIGNAGE
It is important to note that the course is also marked for the Trail Run Australia event. These signs are red arrows on white background and indicate ‘Trail Run Festival’. Please be sure to follow only the signage outlined above.

You can shop for amazing things you never knew you needed until you spied them. Find boutiques curated by quirky locals and collections of Bendigo-made art, craft and fashion. It’s well worth a good old rummage.
You can marvel at our arts and culture in the galleries and museums, then cultivate a healthy love of our natural attractions.
Walk and cycle the city and beyond, book a guided tour of the best bits or take your time experiencing our authentic attractions – if you’ve got kids, you’re going to want to do them all.
Mix and match from these ideas, then hatch your plan for a visit worth writing home about. Or at the very least posting, tweeting, etc etc. Selfies with Sun Loong anyone?

CLIMATE
Bendigo’s location on the northern fringe of the Great Dividing Range means it enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate. The region avoids extremes in weather such as snow and strong winds and averages 240 rain free days per year.
With the average January temperature of 29 degrees and 12 degrees in July – the variation between the seasons is very pleasant. Bendigo is still one of the few places in Australia that you can enjoy all four seasons.

DINING IN BENDIGO
You are what you eat… ever fancied being totally scrummy? That’ll be you after a taste tour of Bendigo restaurants, cafes, farmers markets and fresh food stores. You’ll be fashioning napkins willy-nilly in the most unexpected of places.
Dine in a heritage bank vault, in a former glass factory, a heritage-listed Beaurepaires site, plus down laneways, byways and basements.
Many of the loveliest locals grow, make, bake and brew the food, beer and wine on offer. Salt-of-the-earth people who produce seasonal food so good, ironically, you won’t need salt nor seasoning. Meet them at a market, or on a dedicated foodie tour of the city.
Of course you’ll need to be washing all this down with a bevvie or two; a local wine, a Bendigo beer, or something a wee bit fancy from some of regional Victoria’s best cocktail menus.

BENDIGO CRAFT BEER
Once upon a time the words ‘craft’ and ‘beer’ would never have fraternized so closely. No crafter would risk a malty spillage on their finger knitting. Cheers to that. But times have changed and we all know there’s no beer quite like a craft beer.
Bendigo does it so well. You’ve got your True Brew, your Tooborac, and your Cornella Real just a short drive away. Visit them at the source, find them headlining a beer festival or head to a local pub for a pint or two and a spot of yarn spinning. Pun intended. Many Bendigo venues champion the local brews and can help you choose a favourite.
At True Brew you can get truly crafty; brew your own beer using their time-honoured methods and equipment.
Since 2011, Bendigo Beer has championed local craft beer and breweries by running fun, approachable events to educate and tantalise, while showcasing the city’s vibrant and ever-evolving nightlife and dining culture. Bendigo and central Victoria boasts 6 genuine craft breweries and over 60 venues stocking some of the world’s best ales and lagers.
From cool outdoor bars to brewery bars to traditional pubs to Age Good Food Guide Chef’s Hat restaurants to Australia’s most unique mobile beer festival “Bendigo On The Hop”, Bendigo’s beer scene is considered by some in the industry as the best in regional Australia.
Enough talking, time to get sampling! Head to www.bendigobeer.com/beer-finder to quickly discover the best of the best in Bendigo! Cheers!

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Cross Triathlon just for Elite Athletes?
The answer to this question is an overwhelming “NO!”
The national TreX X-Triathlon series has been running for thirteen years and currently welcomes all manner of participants from 7 years to 80, from those who have never taken part in a triathlon, to mums, dads and families, weekend warriors and those who just love the outdoors and want to try something new.
It really is a family event and offers something for all level of participants including:
Dirt Kids (7-11yrs)
A non-competitive event for 7 to 11 year olds. Typical distances include 50m Swim, 3km XC MTB and 500m Run.
Teaser (12+yrs) Course
This is an event designed for younger participants and new participants who want to come and try a x-triathlon for the first time in a shorter event format. Distances typically include 150m Swim, 5km XC MTB & 1km Trail Run.
Sprint Course (12+yrs)
This course includes all the action of the long course event, but with a shorter distance. Usually including a 350m Swim, 10km XC MTB and 4km Trail Run.
Standard Course (15+yrs)
The standard course is typically a 1,500m Swim, 30km Cross Country Mountain Bike and 10km Trail Run.
What is different from on road triathlon?
Although governed by the same rules and guidelines of on-road triathlon, there are some key differences:
The Swim
The swim course is quite similar to the on road version of the sport. Competitors find themselves plunging into dams, lakes, rivers and the ocean and sometimes have to get in touch with their ‘dirty’ side as swim entries and exits can be muddy and boggy. Reeds, lilies’ and sometimes wildlife can be a part of the swim leg in cross triathlon, which just adds to the adventure of the event.
The Mountain Bike Course
The mountain bike course is an eclectic combination of trails which can include fire trails and 4WD tracks, bush trails, sand. rocks and single track (no tarmac here!). Each course is different and unlike road triathlons, a mountain bike course is very different every time you ride it. It requires a combination of skill, speed, strength and strategy to stay at the pointy end of the field.
In the TreX series a lot of the course is suitable for new comers and those new to mountain biking, however there will also be technical sections to challenge riders mountain bike skills and to add a touch of excitement to the course. If a rider does not feel confident, that’s fine, there’s always the option to walk the more technical sections (they are not usually too long) and start riding again when they feel comfortable.
Course distance can often be deceptive for those unfamiliar with mountain biking. 10km on a mountain bike track is very different to 10km on the road. Riders must constantly be focussed on the trails as they twist and turn and challenge with pinchy climbs, log roll overs, bridges, rock gardens and water crossings. There is no cruising or freewheeling when you get off road. Each athlete must be in the moment and engaged with the course from start to finish. Arguably, it is this element of the sport that keeps competitors coming back for more and more action.
No Such Thing as Drafting
Due to the nature of the mountain bike leg drafting does not come into play in the cross version of the sport. However, courtesy on the mountain bike is governed by recognised mountain bike guidelines such as:
- Where possible riders must keep to the left of the trails and allow others to pass;
- When passing riders should alert the person in front with a friendly shout “On your left”, or “On your right” depending on which side they intend to pass; and
- When being passed, and it is safe to do so, riders will move to the left or right as requested.
The Trail Run
The trail run is where cross triathlon really shines by offering participants a true off-road experience. Trail run courses cover some incredibly diverse terrain and showcases some of Australia’s most spectacular bush and coastal areas.
Typically the trail run includes trails, tracks, creek crossings, steep craggy ascents, rough descents, sandy banks, rocky scrambles and sometimes there’s no tracks at all! This means that competitors must stay focused every step of the way as they challenge themselves to run, scramble and climb to the welcome site of the finish arch and an appreciative crowd at Race HQ
What is the Elite/Open Category
TreX has an Elite/Open Category. This category is for those athletes wishing to race at a higher level of competition and typically includes athletes at the top level of the sport in Australia. Any athlete wishing to race at a higher level of competition and take a step up from the age group competition is eligible to enter Open/Elite.
Where a prize purse is offered at events, this is awarded to winners in the Open/Elite Category.
For athletes considering entering the Open/Elite event, we recommend referring to results from previous years which will offer a good indication as to the typical standard for the Open/Elite category for a particular event.
TRIATHLON AUSTRALIA GUIDELINES
Open is a category that has prize money below the “Professional/Elite” threshold as per the TA Professional/Elite Licence Policy (ie Less than $10k). This category is open to professional and age group athletes. This applies to the majority of TreX events.
In the circumstance where a TreX event offers prize money greater than $10,000 the category will be defined as either “Professional” or “Elite”. In this circumstance, prize money is only available to appropriate licenced athletes under the TA Professional/Elite Licence Policy.
What are the Race Rules?
There are a number of rules that govern the sport of Triathlon in general and specifically Cross Triathlon.
Triathlon Australia governs the sport within Australia and apply the rules at all TreX events, a copy of the rules can be viewed HERE.
Internationally the International Triathlon Union (ITU) governs all aspects of the sport of Triathlon, all international guidelines and rules can be found HERE.
What happens if an event is sold out?
- Numbers are limited at each event for participant safety and environmental reasons.
- When an event is sold out a notice will be posted on the NEWS PAGE of the TreX website.
- No entries will be accepted after the capacity has been reached.
- No ‘On The Day’ entries will be accepted when the event is full.
- Where possible event organisers will make every effort to advise participants when entries are close to capacity via TreX newsletters and on the NEWS PAGE of the website, however entries may close without notice.
What Equipment Will I Need For The Event?
Participants are required to be self sufficient for the event and will require the following equipment on the day:
- Off Road Trail Running Shoes
- Swimmers
- Goggles (if desired)
- Swimming Cap (At events where swim caps are provided in race packs, these swim caps must be worn during the swim leg)
- Mountain Bike – In good working order and with plugs in the handle bar ends.
- Bike Helmet – The bike helmet must be in good condition, fit correctly and meet Australian Safety Standards.
Note: To ensure competitors safety, officials from Triathlon Australia will do a check of participants bikes and helmets before entering the transition area. If bikes and helmet do not meet the requires standards, competitors will not be able to take part in the event. - Bike Shoes (if applicable)
- Hydration Pack or Water Bottles
- Running / Riding Shirt / Vest
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Towel
- Sun Lotion
- Insect Repellent
- Chairs to relax in after the event.
IMPORTANT: Due to the longer distance of the Standard Course, Competitors are highly recommended to carry at least 1 litres of water either in a hydration pack or in bike bottles with them on the Bike Course.
What is provided in my race bag?
Race Bags usually include:
- An electronic timing chip on an ankle strap;
- A race number to be worn on the front of your torso for the run leg;
- A bike number to be attached to the front handle bars or stem of your bike;
- Special giveaways from our event partners (where applicable);
- Event T-shirt (if purchased or included in an early bird entry offer).
Can I carry a music device (MP3, iPod, etc)?
As stated in Triathlon Australia’s rules and regulations competitors are not permitted to race with any music devices including mobile phones, MP3 players, earphones etc. Competitors found with any device such as these will be disqualified.
Is water provided on the course?
Aid stations are made available on the trail run course approximately every 2 km and also at the Finish area. Competitors are expected to be self sufficient for water on the bike leg.
Please note at some events there is limited or no drinking water on site so on these occasions competitors are asked to being enough water and drinks for personal consumption to last before, during and after the race.
Can I wear a hydration pack?
Yes, hydration packs can be worn. If you do decide to wear one though on either the bike or run leg you must keep it on until you return to the transition area at the end of the bike leg or cross the finish line at the end of the run leg. Dropping it off at anytime during either leg would incur a penalty.
What is a wave start?
In order to avoid having every competitor entering the water at the same time, competitors are divided into “waves” to give you plenty of room to swim and enter transition smoothly.
Waves will start at approximate 3 minute intervals.
Make sure you check the notice boards at Race HQ for your wave start time.
Can I wear a wetsuit?
The water temperature will be measured by officials from Triathlon Australia. For age-group competitors, if the water is 22 degrees or above then it will be a non-wetsuit swim. If the water temperature is below 22 degrees competitors will be given the option of wearing a wetsuit. It is not compulsory to wear a wetsuit if the water temperature is below 22 degrees.
As per the Triathlon Australia Race Rules, the temperature limits for the use of wetsuits and maximum time to be in the water are as follows:
1. Elite/Open Competitors
Swim Distance | Forbidden Above | Mandatory Below | Maximum Time |
---|---|---|---|
Up to 1500m | 20o C | 14o C | 30 minutes |
1501m – 3000m | 22o C | 16o C | 1 hour 40 minutes |
3001m and above | 22o C | 16o C | 2 hours 15 minutes |
2. Age Group Competitors
Swim Distance | Forbidden Above | Mandatory Below | Maximum Time |
---|---|---|---|
Up to 1500m | 22o C | 14o C | 30 minutes |
1501m – 3000m | 24.5o C | 15o C | 1 hour 40 minutes |
3001m and above | 24.5o C | 16o C | 2 hours 15 minutes |
Do I have to wear clip in bike shoes?
You do not have to wear ‘clip in’ bike shoes. Depending on your confidence and skill level on a mountain bike, ‘cages’ or standard flat pedals with running shoes are another options.
These may also speed up your transition times from bike to run.
Do I need a mountain bike?
You will require an off road bike as all the riding takes place on fire trails, dirt tracks and some single track. The course is not suitable for a standard road bike.
GRAVEL / CYCLO CROSS BIKES
Gravel bikes are permitted by AUS Triathlon to be used at TreX, however, where this event is a National Championship, State Championship or WQE gravel / cyclo cross bike riders will not be eligible for National or State Championship awards or WQE qualification points.
